Symptoms

When you check spelling in a document, the spelling checker may not detect all the misspelled words.

Cause

This behavior occurs if the Spelling & Grammar options restrict the spelling checker to the main dictionary only.

Workaround

To work around this behavior in Microsoft Word 2000 or Microsoft Word 2002, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Spelling & Grammar tab, click to clear the Suggest from main dictionary only check box, and then click OK.
To work around this behavior in Microsoft Office Word 2003 or Microsoft Office Word 2007, follow these steps:
  1. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Word Options.
  2. On the Proofing page, click to clear the Suggest from main dictionary only check box, and then click OK.
