SYMPTOMSWhen you use the MOM Administrator console to remotely connect to a Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) database, you may receive the following error message: Failed to connect to the database on database server name. CAUSEThis issue may occur if you try to connect to the MOM database through a firewall from a remote computer, and the port for the connection to the MOM database is blocked. By default, the computer that runs Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and contains the MOM database uses port 1433 to receive data from the Database-Consolidator-Agent Manager (DCAM) server and for MOM Microsoft Management Console (MMC) connections. You cannot make these connections if this port is blocked. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, open port 1433 on the firewall or reconfigure SQL server to communicate over a port that is available on the firewall.
