SYMPTOMS

When you perform a Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) query to obtain the name of a user who is logged on to the console session of a Terminal server, the user name is not returned. Instead, you receive a null value.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the user who is logged on to the Terminal server is not a member of the local Administrators group. If the user is a member of the local Administrators group, the user name is returned successfully.

MORE INFORMATION

This hotfix only resolves this problem on Microsoft Windows 2000 Server-based computers that have Terminal Services installed and running. The resolution uses the WTSEnumerateSessions function. This resolution cannot resolve the problem described in the "Symptoms" section of this article on computers that are running Windows 2000 Professional or Windows 2000 Server where Terminal Services is not installed.
