List of command line switches for PowerPoint 2003 Viewer

This article describes the command line switches for Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 Viewer. PowerPoint 2003 Viewer is a program that is used to run presentations on computers that do not have Microsoft PowerPoint installed. By default, PowerPoint 2003 Viewer is added to the same disk or network location that contains one or more presentations that you packaged by using the Package for CD feature.

You can use command line switches to modify the way that PowerPoint 2003 Viewer runs. The command line switches for PowerPoint 2003 Viewer are as follows:

• /L - Use this switch to read a play list of PowerPoint presentations from a text file. For example, type the command Path\pptview.exe /L "Your_Play_List.txt" to view the PowerPoint presentations that are listed in the Your_Play_List.txt file.
• /S - Use this switch to start PowerPoint 2003 Viewer and not display the splash screen.
• /P - Use this switch to send the presentation to a printer, and print the file. For example, type the command Path\pptview.exe /P "Presentation.ppt" to print the Presentation.ppt file.
• /D - Use this switch to prompt the Open dialog box to appear when the slide show ends.
• /N# - Use this switch to open the presentation at a specified slide number. For example, type the command Path/pptview.exe /n5 "presentation.ppt" to open the presentation at slide 5.

The command line switches that were used with Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer 97 are no longer supported in PowerPoint 2003 Viewer. The following command line switches and their functionalities are no longer available because of this change:

• /L - No loop continuously switch. Each presentation will either loop or not loop, depending on how it was saved by the author. This also applies to the contents of a play list; the contents of a play list are shown only one time.
• /K - No Kiosk password dialog switch. Viewer will display presentations in kiosk mode if it is specified by the presentation author, but you cannot specify a kiosk slide show password that will prevent the show from stopping without entering a password.
• /R=n-m - Cannot specify a slide range to show. Viewer will display the range of slides specified by the author.
• /A - Cannot force automatic advancing of slides. Viewer will automatically advance slides if timings and slide show settings have been specified appropriately by the author.
• /V - Virus protection warnings cannot be enabled or disabled by choice.
