Winmgmt.exe uses more CPU resources than you expect

SYMPTOMS

If you click the Processes tab in Task Manager, Winmgmt.exe may report a higher number than you expect in the CPU column.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if your computer uses Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), and verbose logging is turned on for WMI.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, change the WMI logging level to "errors only". To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type wmimgmt.msc, and then click OK.
  2. Right-click WMI Control (Local), and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Logging tab, and then click Errors only under Logging level.
  4. Click OK.
