How to move the client programs folder to another location in Windows Small Business Server 2003

This article describes how to move the Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 client programs folder to a new location. By default, client programs are stored in the following folder on the Windows Small Business Server 2003-based computer : Sometimes, you may have to move this folder to a new location to free disk space or for administrative reasons.

To move the client programs folder, follow these steps.

1. Stop sharing the client programs folder. To do so, follow these steps:
   1. Start Windows Explorer, right-click the ClientApps folder, and then click Sharing and Security.
   2. Click Do not share this folder, and then click OK.
2. Move the folder to a new location by using Windows Explorer.
3. Share the folder from the new location. To do so, follow these steps:
   1. Right-click the ClientApps folder, and then click Sharing and Security.
   2. Click Share this folder, leave ClientApps in the Share name box, type a description such as Small Business Client Application in the Description box, and then click Permissions.
   3. In the Group or user names list, click Everyone, click to select the Full Control check box in the Allow column, and then click OK.
4. Verify that the following NTFS file system security permissions are assigned to the ClientApps folder:
   Administrators: Full Control
   Users: Read & Execute, Read, List Folder Contents
   To do so, follow these steps:
   1. With the ClientApps Properties dialog box still open, click the Security tab.
      
      Note If the check boxes in the Permissions for groupname list are unavailable (appear dimmed), the security permissions that are assigned to that particular user or group are inherited from a parent container.
   2. Click Administrators (EXAMPLE\Administrators), and then verify that the following check box is selected in the Allow column:
      Full Control
   3. Click Users (EXAMPLE\Users), and then verify that the following check boxes are selected in the Allow column:
      Read & Execute
      List Folder Contents
      Read
   4. Click Apply, and then click OK.
5. Start Registry Editor. To do this, click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
6. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\clientsetup
7. In the right pane, double-click ClientAppsRoot.
8. In the Value data box, type the new path of the client programs folder, and then click OK.
