When you insert a File Upload form in a page in Microsoft FrontPage 2002, you can either click Send to Database in the properties of the form or click Options and specify a file upload folder. However, neither of these two options works if you save the page with an Active Server Pages (ASP) file name extension.

This problem occurs because the database functionality in FrontPage 2002 relies on ASP. Therefore, the page must be saved with an ASP file name extension. A run-time webbot (a webbot that is run when the page is viewed in the browser, such as a hit counter, or when a form action is initiated), cannot reside on a page that was saved with the Save to Database option.

You can manually create a plain form with the Save to Database option in FrontPage 2002. First, you have to create a database because FrontPage 2002 will not do this for you. The database that you create must run on a server with Microsoft FrontPage Extensions. If you save this plain form with an .ASP file name extension, this .ASP page cannot run on a server with FrontPage Extensions. You cannot insert a database region from Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 on an .ASP (ASP 1.1) page because it will not work correctly with a combination of an .ASP page and ASP.NET.

If you add the File Upload form control, the page can have an HTML file name extension, and you do not receive the error message that is referenced in the "Symptoms" section. When the page has an HTML file name extension, it is the same as sending the page to a _private/form_results.csv file. As soon as you click to send the page to a database, you must make the page have an ASP file name extension.

The Database Results Wizard and ASP.NET will not work on a Microsoft SharePoint Services site.
