The following issue is fixed in this Microsoft SQL Server 2000 hotfix package:
  • In SQL Server 2000, after you install the security update that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article, you may experience an access violation when a high volume of local shared memory connections occur:

    Note The access violation causes SQL Server to shut down.

    When the access violation occurs, the following event is logged in the Application log:
    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: MSSQLSERVER
    Event Category: (2)
    Event ID: 17055
    Description:
    17310 :
    SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 3856 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating this process.
    When the access violation error occurs, you may notice stack information that is similar to the following:
