Access violation occurs in the MSMQ service

Symptoms

When you run the Microsoft Message Queuing (MSMQ) service, you may receive an "Access Violation" error message, and a message that is similar to the following may be logged in the event log:

Cause

This problem may occur when one of the following conditions is true:
  • You use a network address translation (NAT) firewall. Message Queuing cannot be used with a NAT firewall.
  • Your computer changes its IP address when you start your computer.
  • You have multiple clients that use same Message Queuing GUID because the operating system was cloned or ghosted without using the System Preparation tool (Sysprep.exe).
Message Queuing transactional messages (exactly one time and in-order delivery) are based on sequence IDs (SEQIDs). In this case, the SEQID was never sent from the computer that is associated with the SEQID. Instead of rejecting the acknowledgement as not valid, the sending system tries to process the acknowledgment as valid. This corrupts internal Message Queuing lists and eventually causes the access violation. The hotfix that is described in the "Resolution" section of this article rejects the acknowledgement. Therefore, it prevents the access violation. This hotfix only prevents the access violation.
