SUMMARY

Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 and Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 do not permit users to add offline folder (.ost) files to their Outlook profile when they are using a Microsoft Exchange Server e-mail account.

MORE INFORMATION

When users use Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2003 as an Exchange Server client, they cannot add an .ost file to their Outlook Exchange profile unless the following conditions are both true:
  • The user is the owner of .ost file.
  • The user is the owner of the Microsoft Exchange mailbox that the .ost file was created from.
Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2003 compare unique identifier information between the .ost file profile and the Exchange Server store profile to verify that the previously mentioned conditions are true. Sometimes, as with a new profile, users may have to be logged on to the Microsoft Exchange server to open the .ost file.
