SYMPTOMS

You experience very slow performance by some programs in Microsoft Windows Server 2003.

CAUSE

This problem may occur with version 6.5.3014.0 of the Mfc42u.dll file that is included with Windows Server 2003. This problem can affect custom programs that call the HashKey function in the Mfc42u.dll file. The function may be exported incorrectly as MULTIBYTE instead of as UNICODE.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
