Drop cap fonts change without warning in Publisher 2007 and in Publisher 2003

If you open a publication on a different computer from the one where the publication was created, the fonts that are used in drop capitals may be replaced with different fonts. This problem may occur even if Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 or Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 does not display the Missing Fonts dialog box.

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

• The fonts that are used in the drop capitals are not installed on the second computer.
• The fonts that are used in the drop capitals do not appear anywhere else in the publication except in the drop capitals.

If a font that is used in a drop capital is not available, the drop capital will almost always appear in the Arial font face. If you open a publication that contains drop capitals that are clearly in the wrong font, follow these steps:

1. Select a paragraph that has a drop capital.
2. On the Format menu, click Drop Cap.
3. Click the Custom Drop Cap tab.
4. Under Select Letter Appearance, note the font name that currently appears in the Font list.
5. Click Cancel.
6. Close the publication without saving changes.

8. Reopen the publication.

If you create a publication that uses drop capitals, make sure to use the drop capital fonts somewhere else in the publication, even if only in a text frame that you draw on the scratch area for the publication. When you save your publication, Publisher will embed the font file in the publication.
