FIX: The "catch by" reference does not work with the copy constructor that is defined in your Visual C++ .NET 2003 application

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003, when you build and then run an application that you created by using Microsoft Visual C++ .NET 2003, the "catch by" reference does not work with the copy constructor.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Visual C++ .NET compiler cannot catch an exception by using the base type of the exception if the copy constructor is not public and if the exception is caught by its reference.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Visual Studio .NET 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.

When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:

Make the copy constructor public.
Catch the exception by its value instead of by its reference.
