When a client sends a Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) request to a Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) server, a 500 internal server error may occur. The same request may succeed at other times.

This problem is more likely to occur when the WebDAV request accesses a resource that is located in a folder that has a long path on the operating system. For example, the problem is more likely to occur when a document is located in the C:\Root\Data\WebDAV\Documents\MyData folder than when a document is located in the C:\Root folder.
