When you create multilevel subtotals for data in Microsoft Excel 2002, in Microsoft Office Excel 2003, or in Microsoft Office Excel 2007, and you set the subtotals to appear in the rows that are immediately above the data that they are based on, the totals appear in the incorrect order (staggered incorrectly) and may exclude extra Grand Totals values.

This fix is included in Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or a later version of Office 2003 SP1. The fix is enabled by default when you install the update. However, it may cause incorrect ordering of subtotals when the following conditions are true:

•	The summary appears below the detail data.
•	One or more subtotal breaks contain only a single item.

Follow these steps to disable this hotfix and to resolve this issue by reverting to the subtotal functionality of Excel 97 and Excel 2000:

1.	Quit all Microsoft Office programs.
2.	Click Start, and then click Run.
3.	In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
4.	Locate and then click to select the following registry key: Excel 2002 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Excel\Options Excel 2003 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Excel\Options
5.	After you select the key that is specified in step 4, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD value.
6.	Type Excel97Subtotals, and then press ENTER.
7.	Right-click Excel97Subtotals, and then click Modify.
8.	In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
9.	On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.

Note If there is a current worksheet that contains subtotals, the subtotals must be deleted and recreated in order for the fix to take a effect.
