FIX: You may receive an application error in Vbc.exe or Csc.exe when you run a .NET Framework application

SYMPTOMS

When you run an application that uses the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, and the application was created by using Microsoft Visual Basic .NET, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:

vbc.exe - Application Error
The instructions at "0x791cfea1" referenced memory at "0x00000050". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on Cancel to debug the program

You may also receive this application error message about the Csc.exe file.

When you run an ASP.NET application, you may receive the following error message in the browser:

Server Error in '/' Application.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Compilation Error Description: An error occurred during the compilation of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific error details and modify your source code appropriately.
Compiler Error Message: The compiler failed with error code -1073741819.

STATUS
