SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade your Microsoft Windows XP-based client computer to Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), the Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Advanced Client may not be able to download package files when it uses Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS). Policy downloads for the SMS Advanced Client will continue to function.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Systems Management Server 2003. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Hotfix information

To resolve this problem, install this hotfix on each site server whose distribution points have BITS enabled. After you install this hotfix, the updated files are replaced on the distribution points.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
