Symptoms

When you start Microsoft Photo Editor 3.01, the Photo Editor button appears in the task bar, but the Microsoft Photo Editor window does not appear.

Cause

This problem may occur if you have performed all the following steps:

  1. You start Microsoft Photo Editor in a maximized window.

  2. You click Restore Down (the middle button in the upper-right corner) to resize the Microsoft Photo Editor window to a window.

  3. You move the title bar of the Photo Editor window off the left side of the screen or off the top of the screen.

  4. You quit Photo Editor by right-clicking the Photo Editor button in the task bar, and then by clicking Close.

  5. You restart Photo Editor.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.

To activate this hotfix, remove the Initial Position registry key. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Quit Microsoft Photo Editor.

  2. Click Start, and then click Run.

  3. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.

  4. Click to select the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Photo Editor\3.0\Microsoft Photo Editor

  5. Right-click Initial Position in the Name column in the right-side pane, and then click Delete.

  6. Click Yes to confirm that you want to delete this value.
