An insertion point does not appear in the expected position when you use edit controls that use the right-aligned or the center-aligned text style

SYMPTOMS

When you open a dialog box that contains one or more edit controls on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, and you use the mouse pointer or the TAB key to position the insertion point in one of the edit controls, the insertion point does not appear to be in the expected position. A text character that is one character to the right of the expected insertion point appears to be selected, even though the actual insertion point is in the expected position.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you use a program on a Windows 2000-based system that uses the earlier version UserControl class to enter text into edit controls.

If the ES_RIGHT or the ES_CENTER style is specified as a control style for the text in the edit control, and the EM_SETSEL control message is used to programmatically select text in the edit control, the text selection is displayed incorrectly when you position the insertion point in one of the edit controls. The selected character in the edit control is one character space to the right of the insertion point's actual position. This problem occurs if you use either the mouse or the TAB key to select the edit control.

Note The ES_RIGHT style right-aligns the text in the edit control. The ES_CENTER style centers the text in the edit control.
