SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Microsoft Window XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), you receive the following error message when you run an application that was created by using Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0:
Run-Time error ‘1008’
This problem occurs when the code calls the Listen method of the Mswinsck.ocx object.

CAUSE

This error occurs because the Listen method of the Mswinsck.ocx object fails on Windows XP SP2.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
