When you play a dual-language VCD, both language audio vocal channels play at the same time in Windows Media Center 2004

If you play a dual-language Video CD (VCD) in Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition 2004, Windows Media Center may play both language audio vocal channels at the same time. Additionally, the vocal channels may play through all the speakers that are attached to the Windows Media Center-based computer.

This behavior occurs because Windows Media Center cannot select one audio vocal channel or one speaker choice to use when you play a VCD.

This behavior does not occur when you play a DVD because Windows Media Center uses different technology to play back multi-language DVDs.

For DVD playback, you can use the UI or the remote control to change the sound settings. The following method works for a DVD. However, this method does not work for VCD sound playback in a two-speaker setup when you use the remote control.

1. Press the Windows Media Center Start button on the remote control, and then select Settings.
2. Select TV/DVD.
3. Select DVD, and then select Audio.
4. Note This step is written for a typical Windows Media Center-based computer. The actual appearance of the Vocal Options area depends on the make and the model of the Windows Media Center-based computer that you are using.
   
   In the Vocal Options area, select either Right Vocal or Left Vocal:
   • Left Vocal: The audio in the left channel plays through both speakers.
   • Right Vocal: The audio in the right channel plays through both speakers.
5. Select OK.

Note Regardless of the settings that you select for Vocal Options in the Audio section, or the settings that you select by using the remote control (Left, Right, or Stereo), you cannot control the vocal source for a VCD. Also, if you follow the previous steps to change the audio settings, both languages may still play at the same time on a dual-language VCD.
