This article describes the Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 issues that are fixed in the Outlook 2003 hotfix package that is dated May 20, 2004.

Issues that are fixed in the hotfix package

The following issues are fixed in this hotfix package:

836723 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836723/ ) Some address lists may be missing when you use Outlook 2003 in Cached Exchange Mode
837998 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837998/ ) You cannot open Business Contact records in Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager

The following issues are fixed in this hotfix package but were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

An incorrect non-delivery report (NDR) is generated when Outlook 2003 is offline

If you work offline when Outlook 2003 is configured to use Cached Exchange Mode and you send an e-mail message when your mailbox has exceeded the storage limit that is set for user mailboxes in Microsoft Exchange Server, the non-delivery report (NDR) that you receive contains the following text:
Could not submit the message at the server. The message store has reached its maximum size. To reduce the amount of data in this message store, select some items that you no longer need, permanently (SHIFT+ DEL) delete them.
This text does not notify you that your mailbox has exceeded the storage limit that is specified in Exchange Server.
You cannot recover an item that was deleted from a public folder

If you use the Recover Deleted Items command in Outlook 2003 to recover an item that was deleted from a public folder and the operation is not successful, the item is no longer contained in the folder. That is, you cannot try to recover the item again.
You receive the "Object could not be found" error message when you try to create a new instance of a custom form in the Favorites folder

If you create a folder in the public folder to store items such as contacts or appointments and you create a custom form to use as the default form, you may find that you cannot create a new instance of the custom form after you add the folder to the Favorites folder. For example, when you try to create a new contact or a new appointment from the folder that you added to the Favorites folder, you receive the following error message:
The object could not be found
Additionally, Outlook 2003 may stop responding (hang).
Outlook 2003 stops responding (hangs) when you open a form

When you open a form in Outlook 2003, Outlook 2003 may stop responding (hang). This problem may occur if the Outlook 2003 forms cache already contains five folders for the message class that is associated with the form.
Outlook 2003 stops responding (hangs) when you open a custom form

When you try to open a custom form after you add the ForceFormReload registry entry to the following registry key, Outlook 2003 may stop responding (hang) in certain situations:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook
The "Show Names from the" list in the Address Book dialog box is missing entries

If your Outlook 2003 profile is configured to use Cached Exchange Mode, you may find that the Show Names from the list in the Address Book dialog box is missing entries after you download the address book.
You receive "0x80040304" synchronization error messages and e-mail messages are moved to the Server Failures folder in Outlook 2003

If Outlook 2003 is configured to use Cached Exchange Mode with the Download Headers and then Full Items connection setting, you may find that you cannot download certain e-mail messages. You receive "0x80040304" synchronization error messages and e-mail messages are moved to the Server Failures folder. This problem may occur with e-mail messages that are sent by the Cisco Unity Voice Messaging System.

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 1.
