SYMPTOMS

When you try to import a Microsoft Office Excel 2003 spreadsheet in your Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services site, you may receive the following error message:

The list cannot be imported because a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible spreadsheet application is not installed.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if Microsoft Excel 2002 is the last Microsoft Excel program that you started when you have both Excel 2002 and Microsoft Office Excel 2003 installed on your computer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, start Office Excel 2003 and then try to import your Excel 2003 spreadsheet in your Windows SharePoint Services site.
