On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000, an operable printer and printer driver are installed. When you try to install a new printer driver or when you try to upgrade the printer driver, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
Unable to install <Printer Name>, Windows 2000, Intel Driver. Operation could not be completed.
This problem occurs if the initial printer driver has a file that has the same file date as a file in the new printer driver. Also, this problem occurs if the initial printer driver has a file that has a newer file date than a file in the new printer driver. In these scenarios, the operating system already loaded the printer driver.
Hotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
