An access violation occurs in Lsass.exe in Windows 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

When you use a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server domain controller, an access violation error occurs in the Lsass.exe process, and the computer restarts.

This problem may occur if a pointer is read from a global data structure at the same time that a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) connection time-out causes another thread to free the pointer.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information
