Description of the PowerPoint 2003 hotfix package: March 5, 2004

This article describes the Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 issues that are fixed in the PowerPoint 2003 hotfix package that is dated March 6, 2004.

Issues that are fixed in the hotfix package

The following issues are fixed in this hotfix package, but were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article.

• You may experience the following problem in PowerPoint if you use a particular display option in Control Panel in Microsoft Windows XP. In Windows XP, there is an option to smooth the edges of screen fonts.
  
  The problem occurs in the following scenario. You create a PowerPoint presentation while the option to smooth the edges of screen fonts is turned off. You open the presentation while the option is turned on and while the method that is selected for smoothing the font is ClearType. Text that is formatted with the Logo font may be misaligned or overlapped.
  
  To use the option to smooth the edges of screen fonts in Windows XP, follow these steps:
  1. In Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display.
  2. Click the Appearance tab, and then click Effects. There is a Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts check box. If you click to select the Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts check box, you can click Standard or ClearType.

• When you print a PowerPoint presentation that contains an embedded object, and the Print inserted objects at printer resolution check box is selected, you may be prompted to update the links in your PowerPoint presentation. You receive the following message:
  Microsoft Office PowerPoint
  
  This presentation contains links to other files:

  • If you update the links, PowerPoint will attempt to retrieve the latest information.
  • If you don't update the links, PowerPoint will use the previous information.

  Note that file links can be used to access and share confidential information without your permission and possibly perform other harmful actions. Do not update the links if you do not trust the source of the presentation.

Service pack information

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 1.
