The Information Store service stops responding when an OWA client tries to open a contact distribution list

SYMPTOMS

When a user tries to open a contact distribution list by using Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA), the Information Store service may stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the following conditions are true:

The mail attribute value for a user account in your Microsoft Exchange 2000 organization is empty.
The user who is associated with this empty mail attribute value is included in a contact distribution list of the OWA user who experiences the issue that is described in the "Symptoms" section.

To resolve this problem, obtain the August 2004 Exchange 2000 Server Post-Service Pack 3 update rollup.
