When you click
Check for Updates on the
Help menu in Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2002 or in Visual
Studio .NET 2003, you may receive one of the following error messages:
Visual Studio .NET setup encountered errors while attempting to
download required files. Check your Web Browser configuration settings and your
connection hardware, and then try again.

The issue is caused by an error when the Vsupdate.dll file
accesses the Urlmon.dll file. Subsequently, this can cause Visual Studio .NET
to fail when downloading files from the Update location.

Hotfix information
The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the
Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft
products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Visual Studio .NET 2002 Service Pack 1.

Steps to reproduce the behavior
| 1. | Start Visual Studio .NET 2002 or Visual Studio .NET
2003. |
| 2. | Click Help, and then click Check
for Updates. You receive a dialog box that states that there are no
new updates. |
| 3. | Click Help, and then click Check
for Updates again. |
You receive the error message that is mentioned in the
"Symptoms" section.
