Some parts of your drawing are cut off when you print your Visio 2003 drawing to a printer that uses an HP PCL 3 printer driver

When you print your Microsoft Office Visio 2003 drawing, you may find that your drawing does not print as expected. Some parts of the Visio 2003 drawing are cut off.

This problem may occur if you print your Visio 2003 drawing to a printer that uses a Hewlett-Packard (HP) PCL 3 print driver. To determine if your printer is using a PCL 3 printer driver, see the documentation that is included with your printer or contact your printer manufacturer.

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods depending on your situation.

Method 1: Use a different printer

Print your drawing to a printer that does not use an HP PCL 3 printer driver.

Method 2: Configure print preferences and HP ZoomSmart settings

Configure print preferences in Windows and HP ZoomSmart settings in Visio. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Configure print preferences in Microsoft Windows. To do so, follow these steps:
   1. Click Start, and then click Printers and Faxes.
   2. Right-click your printer, and then click Printing Preferences.
   3. Under Paper Orientation, click the paper orientation that you want.
   4. In the Paper Size box, specify the size of the paper that you are printing, and then click OK.
      
      Note When you configure print preferences in Windows, the settings that you configure are used for all subsequent print operations that you perform. These settings apply to all the programs that you print documents from. After you print your Visio 2003 drawing, you may want to restore the print settings in Windows to the settings that were used before you changed the settings.
2. Configure HP ZoomSmart settings. To do so, follow these steps:
   1. Start Visio 2003, and then open your drawing.
   2. On the File menu, click Print.
   3. In the Print dialog box, click Properties.
   4. Click ZoomSmart, click Scale to fit paper in device, and then click OK.
   5. Click OK two times.

Method 3: Embed your drawing in a Microsoft Word document

Save the Visio 2003 drawing or object as a .tif image or as a .bmp image, insert the .tif image or the .bmp image to a Word document, and then print the document. To do so, follow these steps:

1. In your Visio 2003 drawing, select the objects that you want to copy.
   
   Note If you want to copy the whole drawing page, make sure that no objects are selected in your Visio 2003 drawing. If you select objects in your drawing, only those objects (and not the whole drawing) appear in the resulting graphic file.
2. On the File menu, click Save As.
3. In the Save as type list, click Tag Image File Format (*.tif) or click Windows Bitmap (*.bmp; *.dib), and then click Save.
   
   Note When you export a Visio 2003 drawing object by using the Save As dialog box, an Output Options dialog box may appear, where you can specify the settings that you want for the exported file. The options that appear in the Output Options dialog box depend on the graphic file format that you use.
4. Start Word (if it is not already started), and then open your document.
5. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click From File.
6. Locate the .tif image or the .bmp image that you saved earlier in step 3, and then click Insert.
7. Save, and then print the document.

This problem is corrected in Microsoft Office Visio 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1).
