You receive the "One or more values typed on this page are not valid" error message when you try to create an audience in SharePoint Portal Server 2003

When you try to create an audience by adding a user as a Member of a group account rule, you may receive the following error message: This problem may occur when you try to add a user (such as Domain\UserName) and the NetBIOS domain name is different from the first part of the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN).

This problem was first fixed in a hotfix that is now contained in a service pack. If you installed the latest SharePoint Portal Server 2003 service pack, you do not have to install the hotfix.
