SYMPTOMS

Your Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer may stop unexpectedly, and you may receive the following error message on a blue screen:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer...
Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x0000001E (0xParameter_1, 0xParameter_2, 0xParameter_3, 0xParameter_4)
KMODE EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED

Note The four parameters in this error message may vary depending on the cause of the "Stop 0x1E" error.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because a NULL pointer dereference occurs in the Win32k.sys file during a terminal services session.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information
