SUMMARYYou may receive an error message if you try to change the display configuration while you preview a 3D screen saver. The issue typically occurs with third-party video drivers
that include a utility that permits you to change the video configuration without using the Display Properties dialog box. SYMPTOMSIf you
change the display resolution or the color depth of the computer while
you are previewing any one of the 3D screen savers, you may receive one of the following error messages: There was an unspecified problem with this screen
saver. Direct 3D Screen Saver has encountered a
problem and needs to close. CAUSEThis problem occurs because the 3D screen savers that are included with Microsoft
Windows XP do not respond correctly to changes in display configuration.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, close the
Display
Properties dialog box before you change the display
configuration. STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
in the "Applies to" section of this article.
