Terminal Server users experience degradation in performance when they run 16-bit programsArticle ID: 840214 - View products that this article applies to. On This PageSYMPTOMSYour users may experience degradation in performance when
they run 16-bit programs in a Terminal Server session on a Microsoft Windows
2000-based server. Additionally, any temporary files that are created by the
16-bit programs will be stored in the %systemroot%\temp folder and not in your
user temp folders. CAUSEThis problem occurs whenever a 16-bit program creates a
Microsoft Windows NT Virtual DOS Machine (NTVDM) session to run in. The NTVDM
session uses the incorrect TEMP environment variable for all temporary files
created by 16-bit programs. RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article.
