Terminal Server users experience degradation in performance when they run 16-bit programs

SYMPTOMS

Your users may experience degradation in performance when they run 16-bit programs in a Terminal Server session on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based server. Additionally, any temporary files that are created by the 16-bit programs will be stored in the %systemroot%\temp folder and not in your user temp folders.

CAUSE

This problem occurs whenever a 16-bit program creates a Microsoft Windows NT Virtual DOS Machine (NTVDM) session to run in. The NTVDM session uses the incorrect TEMP environment variable for all temporary files created by 16-bit programs.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information
