DVD movies play full-screen in a single color on Windows XP

When you play a DVD full-screen through Microsoft Windows Media Player or through a third-party DVD player, the video may play in a single color.

This problem may occur if you have a semi-transparent program window in the upper-left corner of the Microsoft Windows XP desktop. For example, this problem may occur if you have the Input Method Editor (IME) input bar in that location. The process that makes the window semi-transparent interferes with the DirectShow Video Renderer filter. All programs that use this filter experience this problem.

To work around this problem, do not run the program that creates the semi-transparent window, or do not position this window in the upper-left corner of the Windows XP desktop when you play DVD movies.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
