A search with a custom IFilter returns unexpected results on SharePoint Portal Server

When you search for content on the portal site after you configure Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 to use a custom IFilter, some items are not returned in the search results in certain situations. For example, when you search for content by using a query that contains an ORDER BY clause that uses the DESC sort order, you may receive fewer items than you expected in the search results.

This problem occurs in situations when SharePoint Portal Server 2003 incorrectly processes certain queries that contain FREETEXT clauses.

This problem was first fixed in a hotfix that is now contained in a service pack. If you installed the latest SharePoint Portal Server 2003 service pack, you do not have to install the hotfix.
