You receive a "The network name cannot be found" error message when you try to connect to a SMB/CIFS server

When you try to connect to a server message block (SMB)/Common Internet File System (CIFS) server, you may receive the following error message: Additionally, the following event may be logged one or more times in the system event log:

Description: The redirector was unable to initialize security context or query context attributes.

Note In this event, "MRxSmb" is the SMB mini-redirector.

This problem occurs if both the following conditions are true:

• You are running Microsoft Windows 2000.
• The security update that is described in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-011 is installed on both computers. For more information about this security update, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
