SYMPTOMS

The icon for the HotPlug Manager (HotPlug.dll) that appears in the notification area does not list a universal serial bus (USB) mass storage device that is part of a composite USB device. This problem may prevent you from disconnecting the USB device or from receiving a warning when you try to disconnect the mass storage device by using the control panel on the USB mass storage device.

Note The notification area is located on the right side of the taskbar.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
