Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry
When you select the Connect to the Internet
and Setup my connection manually option buttons in the
Microsoft Windows XP New Connection Wizard to create a new Internet connection
that requires a username and a password, the option to supply a username and a
password may not be available.
Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry
Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
To resolve this problem:
Verify that the Remote Access Connection Manager service is
started:
Click Start, click Control
Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, click
Administrative Tools, and then double-click
Services.
Right-click Remote Access Connection
Manager, and then click Properties.
In the Startup Type list box, click
Automatic.
If the Service Status is Stopped, click the Start button.
You may receive the following error message:
Could not start the Remove Access Connection manager
service on Local Computer. Error 5: Access is denied.
If you receive
this error message, follow these steps.
