Article ID: 867582 - Last Review: July 24, 2007 - Revision: 2.9 "STOP 0x7B" error may occur on a computer that is using 4-GB DIMMs during the installation of Windows Server 2003
On This PageSYMPTOMSDuring the installation of Microsoft Windows Server 2003, you may receive a Stop error message that is similar to the following:
STOP: 0x0000007B (0, c0000034, 0, 0) INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE CAUSE
This problem may occur if the computer is using 4-gigabyte (GB) dual inline memory modules (DIMM).
The problem occurs because some drivers do not support memory addressing above 4 GB. When memory descriptors are assigned to the free list, the lower memory addresses are assigned first. If a driver requests memory, and that driver does not support higher addresses, the request may cause the system to crash if the lower memory addresses are already assigned.
