When you open a Microsoft Excel for Windows workbook in Microsoft Excel 2004 for Mac, the yen character may appear as a backslash (\).

This problem may occur if the yen symbol is formatted in the MS UI Gothic font in the Excel for Windows workbook. Excel 2004 for Mac does not include this font.

To work around this problem, change the font to a Japanese font that is included in Excel 2004 for Mac.
Note You can use any Japanese font that is available in Excel 2004 for Mac.
To do this, follow these steps:
| 1. | Start Excel 2004 for Mac, and then open the Excel for Windows workbook. |
| 2. | Click the cell that contains the yen symbol, click Format, and then click Cells. |
| 3. | On the Font tab, under Font, click a Japanese font that is included with Excel 2004 for Mac, and then click OK. |
