SYMPTOMS

When you use keyboard shortcuts to apply Note Flags in Microsoft Office OneNote 2007 or in Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1), you may find that only the first nine Note Flags can be applied by using the keyboard shortcut keys (CTRL + 1 through CTRL + 9).

CAUSE

This problem occurs because OneNote provides support for nine keyboard shortcut keys. By default, the keyboard shortcut keys are applied to the first nine Note Flags. However, you can assign the nine shortcut keys to any Note Flag.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the Note Flags toolbar shortcut menu to apply Note Flags.

To make the Note Flags toolbar visible in OneNote, point to Toolbars on the View menu, and then click Note Flags.

You can now apply any one of the 25 Note Flags that are available in One Note by using the toolbar shortcut menu.

To assign the nine keyboard shortcut keys (CTRL + 1 through CTRL + 9) to any Note Flag of your choice, follow these steps:
  1. On the Format menu, point to Note Flags, and then click Customize My Note Flags.
  2. Click the Note Flag that you want to assign a particular shortcut key.
  3. Click the appropriate arrow key to move the Note Flag up or down to assign one of the nine keyboard shortcuts.
Now you can use the shortcut keys that you assigned to the Note Flag in step 2.
