This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
CAUSE This issue occurs if the virtual server in Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 is configured to use Basic authentication. Your user name and your password do not pass seamlessly from Microsoft Internet Explorer to the Office program. WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, configure the virtual server in IIS 6.0 to use Integrated Windows authentication instead of Basic authentication. To enable Integrated Windows authentication and to disable Basic authentication for a virtual server in IIS 6.0, use one of the following procedures, as appropriate for your situation. Note SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 use the term "Web application" instead of "virtual server."
