Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) provides the latest updates to Microsoft Office 2003. Office 2003 SP1 contains significant security enhancements, and stability and performance improvements. Office 2003 SP1also includes many performance and feature enhancements to Microsoft Office Access 2003.

Office 2003 SP1 fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

You cannot prevent the Conversion dialog box from appearing when you open an old database



When you open a Microsoft Access database that was created in an earlier version of Access in Access 2003, the Convert/Open Database dialog box appears.


You receive an error message when you run a macro that contains a blocked expression


When you run a Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macro that contains a blocked expression, and you have selected the option to block unsafe expressions, you receive the following error message:
You don't have the license to use this ActiveX control.


You cannot type some Japanese-language characters in Input Method Editor (IME) 2000 when the IME Sentence Mode property field is not set to something (left blank)


If you use IME 2000 in the Japanese version of Access 2003, and you type Japanese-language characters in Access 2003, some characters may not be typed if the IME Sentence Mode property field is not set to something (left blank).


Conditional formatting is not applied to calculated controls in a complex form


If you have a complex form that has several levels of nested calculated controls in Access 2003, some of the conditional formatting is not applied to the calculated controls if there are controls that contain expressions.


You receive the "Not a valid password" error message when your password ends with a backslash


If you try to open a database that is password protected in Access 2003, the database does not open even if you type the correct password, and you receive the following error message:
Not a valid password.
This issue occurs when the password ends with a backslash (\).
