Article ID: 878467 - Last Review: August 27, 2004 - Revision: 1.3 Your Windows XP-based computer does not resume from standby when you move your USB mouse or press a key on your USB keyboardSYMPTOMSWhen all the following conditions are true, you may not be able to resume your Microsoft Windows XP-based computer when you move your USB mouse or press a key on your USB keyboard:
CAUSEThis problem occurs because you moved your USB mouse or pressed a key on your USB keyboard while your Windows XP-based computer was entering standby. When you suspend a Windows XP-based computer, the USBPORT_FDOFLAG_SUSPENDED flag is set. In this case the USBPORT_FDOFLAG_SUSPENDED flag is set before the Windows XP-based computer is in standby. When you move the USB mouse while the computer is in standby, the Usbport.sys driver calls the USBPORT_CompletePdoWaitWake function. This call is an attempt to bring the computer out of standby, but this call occurs before the computer has fully entered standby. Therefore, the USB mouse and any other USB devices that share the same host controller may stop responding. WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, restart your Windows XP-based computer. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
