You are redirected to a different Web page in Internet Explorer on a Windows XP Service Pack 2-based computer

SYMPTOMS

When you try to visit a page of a Web site by using Microsoft Internet Explorer and Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), you may be redirected to a different page, or the page may not open. Additionally, you may receive a message that is similar to the following:
Did you notice the Information Bar?
The Information Bar alerts you when Internet Explorer blocks a pop-up window or file download that might not be safe. If a Web page does not display properly, look for the Information Bar (near the top of your browser).

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when Internet Explorer blocks a pop-up window. Some Web sites redirect Internet Explorer to a different page if a pop-up window is blocked.

RESOLUTION

You can resolve this issue on a site-by-site basis. To resolve this issue for this Web site, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, point to Pop-up Blocker, and then click Always Allow Pop-ups from This Site.
  2. When prompted to allow pop-ups from this Web site, click Yes.

WORKAROUND

To temporarily work around this issue, hold down the CTRL key when you visit a Web site that displays a pop-up window.

MORE INFORMATION

If you later decide that you no longer want to allow pop-up windows from a particular Web site, follow these steps on that Web site:
  1. On the Tools menu, point to Pop-up Blocker, and then click Block Pop-ups from This Site.
  2. When prompted to block pop-ups from this Web site, click Yes.
