When you send an e-mail message from a Microsoft Outlook client to the Internet through a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 computer, the original Outlook message format overrides the Internet message format that is specified by your Exchange Server computer.
Note To view the Internet message format settings on your Exchange Server computer, start Exchange System Manager, expand Global Settings, click Internet Message Formats, and then double-click Default.
This problem occurs because Outlook sets the PR_INETMAIL_OVERRIDE_FORMAT flag on all HTML e-mail messages. The flag prevents the Exchange Server computer from overriding the original message format of the e-mail message.

This problem was first corrected in Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
This problem does not affect Microsoft Outlook Web Access clients. E-mail messages that are created by using Outlook Web Access are formatted as expected. These e-mail messages use the Internet message format settings on the Exchange Server computer.
