Article ID: 883496 - Last Review: June 27, 2007 - Revision: 2.5 Client Access Points are installed to the default NTFS file system drive when you use the No_SMS_on_drive.sms file in Systems Management Server 2003
On This PageSYMPTOMSThe Readme.htm file on the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 source disc contains information about how to use the No_SMS_on_drive.sms file. The No_SMS_on_drive.sms file prevents SMS from installing files to a specific NTFS file system drive. However, SMS 2003 may ignore the No_SMS_on_drive.sms file when SMS 2003 installs a new Client Access Point (CAP). If you create the No_SMS_on_drive.sms file on the largest NTFS partition of a destination CAP computer, SMS 2003 still creates the CAP folders on the NTFS partition. RESOLUTIONService pack informationTo resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Systems Management Server 2003. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Systems Management Server 2003 Service Pack 2. MORE INFORMATIONThis hotfix can prevent a new site from creating the default CAP share directly after the site is installed. If SMS 2003 finds the No_SMS_on_drive.sms file on all the NTFS drives on the site system, the site is still configured as a CAP. However, the CAP folder is not created.
If SMS 2003 detects the No_SMS_on_drive.sms file on all available NTFS partitions, the following status message is logged in the Site System Status container for the CAP: SMS Inbox Manager cannot create directory "Client Access Point Discovery Data Record Inbox" with the desired security rights on client access point "["Display=\\computer name\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=site_code"]\\computer name\". Possible cause: The destination drive is full. Solution: Make more space available on that drive. Possible cause: The destination site system is turned off, not connected to the network, or not functioning properly. Solution: Verify that the site system is turned on, connected to the network, and functioning properly. Possible cause: SMS Inbox Manager does not have sufficient access rights to remotely administer the site system. Solution: Verify that the Site System Connection accounts are properly configured to allow SMS to remotely administer the site system. Possible cause: Network problems are preventing SMS Inbox Manager from properly accessing the site system. Solution: Investigate and correct any problems with your network. 824684
