This article describes how to configure your Xbox console to play system link games when you use a wireless connection.
You can play system link games with a wireless connection when you use a wireless adaptor, such as the MN-740. However, you must use a separate adaptor for each Xbox console that you want to use for system link play. The number of consoles that you can use for system link play is different for different games. Some Xbox games support only two Xbox consoles for system link play. Other games support up to four consoles for system link play.
Make sure that the wireless setting in the Xbox Dashboard lists the network mode as
Ad hoc 802.11 b/g. Your Xbox wireless adaptor must use the same network name (SSID) and wireless security information (WEP key) as your wireless network. You must configure each device that you use for system link play to the same channel.
To set up the first Xbox console for system link play, follow these steps:
- Remove any disc from the disc tray, and then turn on the Xbox console.
- On the Main Menu screen, press the directional pad (D-pad) up or down to select Settings, and then press the A button.
- On the Settings screen, press the D-pad down to select Network Settings, and then press the A button.
- On the Network Settings screen, press the D-pad down to select Advanced, and then press the A button.
- On the Advanced screen, press the D-pad down to select Wireless, and then press the A button to view the Wireless Status screen.
- Configure the wireless settings on the Wireless Status screen.
- Press the D-pad left or right to select Settings, and then press the A button to view the Select Network screen.
- On the Select Network screen, press the D-pad up or down to select Other, and then press the A button.
- Use the on-screen keyboard to create a wireless network name (SSID), select Done, and then press the A button to return to the Select Network screen.
Note The network name is case-sensitive. When you set up the wireless adaptor on your second Xbox console, the network name automatically appears on the Wireless Settings screen.
- On the Wireless Settings screen, press the D-pad down to select Network Mode, and then press the A button.
- On the Network Mode screen, press the D-pad up or down to specify the network mode as ad hoc 802.11b/g, and then press the A button.
- Press the D-pad up or down to select Channel, and then press the A button.
- On the Channel screen, press the D-pad up or down to select the channel that you want to use, and then press the A button.
Note When you set up your second Xbox wireless adaptor, the channel that you selected on the Channel screen is automatically selected for you.
- On the Wireless Settings screen, press the D-pad down to select Security Type, and then press the A button to enable wireless security.
- On the Security Type screen, press the D-pad up or down to select the channel that you want to use, and then press the A button.
Note Wireless security helps protect your wireless network from unauthorized access. 128-bit WEP is more secure than 64-bit WEP. We recommend that you use the highest security setting that your wireless adaptor can support. You must use the same security type on the second Xbox console that you used on the first Xbox console.
