INTRODUCTION

This article describes the Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 issues that are fixed in the Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that is dated September 17, 2004.

Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issues:
  • 831194 You receive a "Search resources changed. Please redo your search" message when you search for content in your server farm deployment of SharePoint Portal Server 2003
  • 837249 You receive the "One or more values typed on this page are not valid" error message when you try to create an audience in SharePoint Portal Server 2003
  • 843603 When you search for multiple choice check box fields in a document library, no results are returned with SharePoint Portal Server 2003
  • 841363 You receive the "0x80042611" error message when you try to add a Lotus Notes database as content for crawling in a server that is running SharePoint Portal Server 2003
  • 867804 SharePoint Portal Server 2003 incorrectly displays values for certain properties of HTML documents that are returned in the search results
  • 843185 You are not alerted by e-mail from a SharePoint Server 2003 site
  • 841895 Information that is contained in the Manager field of a user profile is removed in SharePoint Portal Server 2003
  • 873326 User profile information is not updated correctly after you import a user profile from Active Directory to SharePoint Portal Server 2003
  • 843602 E-mail messages that are generated by the Alerts feature in SharePoint Portal Server 2003 contain an incorrect URL to the My Site personal site
  • 843522 Update available to configure the code page that is used by the Search HTML filter in SharePoint Portal Server 2003
This hotfix package fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • You receive "The binding handle is invalid" error message when you implement Single Sign-On services in SharePoint Portal Server 2003

When you try to access the Manage Server Settings for Single Sign-On page in SharePoint Portal Server 2003, you receive the following error message:
    The binding handle is invalid
This problem occurs when the computer name is more than 14 characters in length.
  • Duplicate documents are returned in search result when your query includes the docsignature property in SharePoint Portal Server 2003

When you issue a query that tries to retrieve the docsignature property (urn:schemas.microsoft.com:fulltextqueryinfo:docsignature) that you included in the content index in SharePoint Portal Server 2003, duplicate documents may be returned in the search results.

This issue occurs because SharePoint Portal Server 2003 cannot retrieve the docsignature property to collapse duplicate search results.
  • Search does not return a result set when you search by a custom numeric field in SharePoint Portal Server 2003

When you add a document library that contains a custom numeric field, and you try to search for documents that are based on the numeric field value in SharePoint Portal Server 2003, no documents are returned in the search results. You expect to see a result set with all documents that contain the numeric field value that you entered in the search criteria.
  • Search does not return a result set when you search by a Yes/No field in SharePoint Portal Server 2003

When you add a document library that contains a Yes/No field, and you try to search for documents based on the Yes/No field value in SharePoint Portal Server 2003, no documents are returned in the search results. You expect to see a result set with all documents that contain the Yes/No field value that you entered in the search criteria.
  • Audience compilation does not work for a large security group in SharePoint Portal Server 2003

When you try to compile an audience that contains many members in SharePoint Portal Server 2003, a timeout error occurs and the compilation is unsuccessful.
  • A user with access to a SharePoint Portal Server 2003 subarea cannot access the subarea if the connection to the site is the first session

When a user tries to access a subarea of a portal site, the user may receive a error message that is similar to the following:
    Access denied.
You do not have permission to perform this action or access this resource. Access requests are not enabled
This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
    • The user is the first user in the session to connect to the portal site.
    • The user does not have access to the Home area of the site.
  • Password is not verified when you modify a site rule and select a crawling account in SharePoint Portal Server 2003

When you modify a site rule in SharePoint Portal Server 2003, and then click Specify crawling account, the password is not verified in the Confirm password box.

You do not receive an error message if the password that you type in the Password box is different from the password that you type in the Confirm Password box.

Note The value that you type in the Password box is the value that is used by SharePoint Portal Server 2003 to set up the account.
  • The alert e-mail message line is truncated when RFC 821/2821/2822 single line length exceeded in SharePoint Portal Server 2003

When you configure SharePoint Portal Server 2003 to send e-mail alert messages to a Request for Comments (RFC) compliant mail server, the lines of the e-mail message may be truncated to the RFC standard length of a maximum of 998 characters.

Installation Instructions

The following are the two parts to the installation of this hotfix:
  • The SharePoint Portal Server 2003 update
  • The Microsoft SQL Server Stored Procedure update

The SharePoint Portal Server 2003 update

This part of the hotfix prevents the problems that are discussed in this article. To update SharePoint Portal Server 2003, follow these steps:
  1. Run the self-extracting package, and then extract the files to the folder that you specify.
  2. Double-click the SPS2003-KB883919-Server-GLB.EXE file to start the installation.
  3. If you are prompted to insert your original Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 CD, insert it, and then click OK.
  4. Follow the steps that are on the screen to install the update.

The Microsoft SQL Server Stored Procedure update

This part of the hotfix will make sure that your SharePoint Portal Server 2003 has the fix described in KB873326 applied to each of your existing portal sites. You must run these steps on each existing portal site. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Run the self-extracting package, and then extract the files to the folder that you specify.
  2. For the SQL query file Profupdate.SQL that is extracted to the temporary folder that you indicated in step 1, follow these steps.

If you are using Microsoft SQL Server as the back end for SharePoint Portal Server 2003, follow these steps:
    1. Start SQL Query Analyzer, and then connect to the instance of SQL Server specified in your configuration.
    2. In the database box, select the <portal_name>1_PROF database where <portal_name> is the name of the existing portal.
    3. On the File menu, click Open, locate the Profupdate.SQL file that is located in the temporary folder that you specified in step 1, and then click Open.
    4. On the Query menu, click Execute.
    5. When the query has finished running, on the File menu, click Exit.
If you are using Microsoft MSDE as the back end for SharePoint Portal Server 2003, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
    3. At the command prompt, type osql -S <machineName>\SHAREPOINTPORTAL -d <portal_name>1_PROF -n -E -i <temporary_folder_path>\Profupdate.SQL where <machineName> is the computer name and <temporary_folder_path> is the temporary folder specified in step 1.
    4. When the query has finished running, at the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER.
