Enhanced Metafiles (EMF) are slow or do not play at all in Windows XP or Windows 2000
On This PageSYMPTOMSWhen you open an enhanced metafile (EMF), especially an
enhanced metafile that is on a network drive, on your Microsoft Windows
XP-based computer or on your Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, the
playback of the EMF file may be slow or may not play at all. Note This problem may occur in the following programs:
CAUSEThis problem may occur after you install the update that is
included for your Windows operating system in the following Windows security
update:

RESOLUTIONWindows XPA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.
